Four Hassell projects have taken five top honours at the 2023 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) National Awards.

Under the theme of ​‘Radical Regeneration: the future of urban renewal in China and beyond’, our Shanghai studio celebrated its remarkable 20-year journey.

Hassell has won the design competition for USTC Business School in Hefei, China with a vision for a landmark ​‘Infinity Knowledge Hub’. ​“Our submission proposes a landmark and iconic design fully integrated into the campus and the city in a bold new vision for USTC Business School,” says Xun Huang, Principal. A Shanghai-based landscape architect who has been with Hassell for over 15 years, Michelle has worked on many significant public realm and city-shaping projects across China.

Since opening in 2021, the West Bund has been attracting up to 40,000 visitors in a single day, becoming a truly must-visit riverfront destination in Shanghai, and one of the most beloved public spaces in the city.

Welcome Xun Huang as a Principal in our Shanghai studio. With a Masters of Architecture from Deflt University of Technology and over 20 years’ experience in Europe and China, Xun is passionate about implementing sustainable design principles that respond to context and local culture.
