Melbourne Metro station completion date brought forward

Hassell has announced that the cornerstone of its major Melbourne transport project, Melbourne Metro’s Town Hall Station, is currently on track to open a year ahead of its scheduled timeframe, ensuring City Square will be returned to the community well ahead of originally planned. “City Square will once again become an activated and lively public space, a key destination and meeting place as well as a beautiful new arrival experience amongst the fabric of Melbourne for residents and visitors alike.” — Hassell Principal Mark Loughnan. Offices need to flex up and down, says new Hassell boss Liz Westgarth

Offices will increasingly locate collaborative workspaces on key floors to give employers the ability to cluster staff together when only a few people are in the office as well as to spread them out when more come in, architecture firm Hassell’s new managing director Liz Westgarth says. “We’re looking at designs for clients that allow them to flex across multiple floors,” Ms Westgarth said. “When they have [more] people who want to come into the workplace, they can spread out, and when there are fewer people in the office they go through a booking system that allows them to co-locate together and have that energy and the ‘bump’ factor.” Read the full article in the Australian Financial Review. Lendlease, Hassell reveal transformative tower for Melbourne CBD

Lendlease has officially unveiled Town Hall Place, a mixed-use development in the heart of the Melbourne CBD designed by Hassell. Once complete, the ten-storey tower over the new underground Metro Tunnel Town Hall Station will feature 16,000sqm of A-grade commercial space linking into activated laneways, arcades, retail and hospitality offerings. Our design approach acknowledges the history and heritage of the immediate streetscape, while capitalising on the views of Federation Square, St Paul’s Cathedral, Flinders Street Station, the Arts Centre and the MCG. Office building above Melbourne’s Town Hall Station approved

Town Hall Place has been given the Victorian state government’s green light. Our proposal for a 10-storey A-grade commercial tower will deliver a building that is contextually appropriate and beautifully proportioned. “It will be a self-assured, confident building that will establish an enduring civic counterpoint to the inherently ‘expressive’ characteristics of the surrounding buildings,” says Hassell principal Andrew Low.
