Riverside Green Brisbane wins at 2022 Sustainability Awards

Our design for Riverside Green, a new green heart for Brisbane, Australia is the winner of the Landscape and Urban Award at the 2022 Sustainability Awards held in Sydney.

An inviting, free public space designed for Brisbane’s subtropical climate, Riverside Green supports the city’s leisure and recreation needs at a time when inner-city population growth is putting pressure on the city’s existing parks and public spaces.

The 2022 Sustainability Awards jury said: Building less with more. [Riverside Green] relies on passive design — natural light, natural ventilation and natural shade via landscape to reduce energy demands and improve comfort particularly in warm weather environments.

Riverside Green extends the adjacent rainforest by 650sqm, boosting the urban tree canopy of South Bank Parklands with more than 50 new trees.

By championing landscape over built form – Riverside Green is a more cost-effective and more sustainable strategy in every instance.”

Replacing restaurants damaged during the city’s 2011 floods, a lush and shaded rainforest deck and pavilion stocked with moveable furniture provides a unique and adaptable place for events and everyday life that leverages a prime riverfront position.
