Hassell’s First Building takes home three honours at this year’s Good Design Awards
Hassell’s First Building has been recognised with three honours at the 2025 Good Design Awards — the Award for Sustainability, Gold Award for Built Environment Architectural Design and the Award for Social Impact.
Located in Bradfield City Centre, Australia’s newest city, First Building is the first completed building in this emerging hub for innovation and houses Stage 1 of the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF). A bold statement about the future of sustainable design, First Building demonstrates how exceptional design quality and environmental responsibility can work hand in hand.
Reflecting the Award for Sustainability’s key criteria of a project that embodies excellence in design for sustainability and circular economy principles, the building is designed for adaptability, resource efficiency and resilience, with its modular “kit-of-parts” allowing for disassembly, expansion and even relocation for an entirely new use.
“We wanted to design a building that could adapt to a different use. If we could design more buildings that could adapt and change, that would be more sustainable.”
Liz Westgarth, Managing Director, Hassell
First Building sets a new benchmark for regenerative, circular design — proving that large-scale industrial projects can be both high-performing and deeply connected to place.
