Hassell boosts aviation sector with new hire
Hassell has appointed Andrew Wallace, a senior associate, to strengthen its aviation expertise after a run of airport commissions, including the design of Queenstown Airport, New Zealand.
Andrew joins Hassell with a career spanning more than 15 years on complex public projects across aviation, sport and entertainment. His experience has taken him from work in the residential space into large-scale public architecture with Populous, Arup and COX.
At Populous, Andrew led the design for Adelaide Airport, building deep knowledge across terminal planning, multidisciplinary coordination and the delivery of complex aviation environments. His broader portfolio includes major stadia and entertainment precincts, where he has led teams through demanding design and delivery phases, balancing client requirements, architectural ambition and technical complexity.
“The value of good aviation design lies in bringing together operational needs, commercial priorities and passenger experience. It’s about understanding what matters most to each client and finding smart design solutions that make airports work better for everyone who moves through them.”
Andrew Wallace, Senior Associate, Hassell
Andrew’s appointment comes as Hassell continues to grow its aviation portfolio. Our team was recently selected to design the redevelopment of Queenstown Airport and to deliver the architecture and interiors for the International Terminal 2 (T2) satellite expansion and refurbishment at Melbourne Airport. Andrew’s experience strengthens Hassell’s capacity to support clients across the full lifecycle of complex airport projects, from strategic planning and terminal design through to detailed design and delivery.
