The role

The roles

Professional Practice Group Leader

The role

Play a key role in promoting and facilitating continual improvement at HASSELL.  

As a new role within HASSELL, the Professional Practice Group Leader has great scope to shape this position and make considered improvements to processes ranging from briefing to design development, documentation and delivery and everything in between.

The Professional Practice Group Leader is responsible for  assisting with the development and evolution of the Professional Practice System and working with our talent to achieve our goal - the consistent application of Professional Practice across HASSELL.

You will consult and engage with our Heads of Design and Head of Design Technology to develop and align our processes, systems and guides.  You will completely embed our design process, both in its current form and to the way it may adapt to the changing nature of the design profession. 

No two days will be the same in this role. You will work closely with our Head of Professional Practice and the Professional Practice Group, across a a range of areas including reviews, safety in design, risk management, sustainability and systems/processes that support them and all other aspects of design practice. Other tasks you can expect to be involved in include:

_Training staff in existing and evolving work practices
_Facilitating workshops with internal stakeholders to better understand opportunities for improvement
_Devising training sessions on use of HASSELL processes and systems and rolling them out
_Training, mentoring and coaching staff at various levels to cover project management, inductions, existing and new HASSELL systems/processes, new laws/legislation/codes regarding design services
_Amending and developing Professional Practice Library documents and creating new documents; streamlining and improving processes if required
_Preparing reports/recommendations based on findings from stakeholder engagement
_Monitoring uptake and application of existing and new processes

By having an understanding of systems and software you will have the opportunity to improve how we work and create efficiencies.

This role can be based in our Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane studios. 

About you

You understand that everything we do relates back to our vision to create places people love.

Ideally you will have a minimum of 8 years experience. You have a background as an Architect, Landscape Architect or Interior Designer so you can think as a designer, understand design services for all phases of projects of various scales and complexities across all our disciplines and regions. 

You will be well versed with a variety of software – from InDesign, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and ideally experience with Sharepoint and other interfaces and an understanding of Newforma.

You’re a natural communicator and have the ability to influence others. You enjoy helping people to achieve their goals and your breadth of knowledge and approachability give you a reputation as, “the go to person”. These natural communication skills mean you easily build rapport and relationships even when your stakeholders are in different locations.

You have a keen interest in technology and a genuine curiosity around design process and delivery efficiencies. You have the ability to manage various tasks, organise, prioritise and deliver work autonomously.

This role will require training and workshop facilitation, so your experience in leading training sessions would be ideal.

Finance Manager (Australian Region)

The role

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to oversee project finances across our Australian studios.

You’ll manage the accountants in our Australian studios – Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane – and you will be responsible for the consolidation of forecasting and investigation, detailed project P&L reporting and review, budget and rolling forecasts, cash flow and debt collection.

You will report to the Chief Financial Officer based in Melbourne and you will assist in quarterly business performance reviews, full suite reporting on particular projects and sectors, data analysis and detailed commentary and project control of consulting businesses.

About you

You have a tertiary qualification with at least eight years' experience preferably within a medium-sized organisation and Chartered Accounting practice. You possess strong leadership skills and have the ability to communicate and influence through verbal and written communications. Strong numerical skills, together with intermediate Excel skills are essential, whilst experience with Microsoft Axapta (AX) and experience in the construction or professional services industries, is highly desirable.

Regional Leader - FreeState

As the dynamic and charismatic Regional Leader for FreeState in the UK, you will be a senior figure within the industry and within our company. In this role you’ll have autonomy and responsibility. You are primarily responsible for executing the business strategy, and ensuring that our team and clients are always on track from a quality, cost and impact perspective across the life of the project.

Finance Manager (part-time)

The role

Bring your financial management expertise to a global practice and achieve quality project, people and practice outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Regional Manager, Studio Manager and Group Finance Manager, you will work three days per week to oversee the day-to-day finances of the business and control the local accounting processes.

Specifically, you will:

_Oversee and report on the working capital positions, including regular cash flow forecasting
_Ensure the completion of month end reporting in an accurate and timely manner, as well as overseeing the quarterly financial review process with Group Finance and the management / mentoring of the local Assistant Accountant
_Assist team leaders in the review and preparation of monthly project financials as well as overseeing general project performance, offering assistance to practice leaders to resolve any project concerns or issues of financial performance
_Drive the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes, providing assistance and insight to key stakeholders
_Act as the key point of contact for liaising with external parties on banking, taxation and annual auditing requirements
_Assist in the preparation of the monthly payroll in conjunction with the local P&C representative and external payroll provider.

About you

You have five to ten years of finance experience, preferably in the construction/design industry or a professional services organisation. You have experience with a large ERP accounting system (HASSELL uses Microsoft Dynamics AX2012) and are degree qualified with a UK equivalent accounting body membership E.g. ACA / CIMA.

You are a natural leader with strong communication skills. You have exceptional business acumen and you are always thinking ahead. You are able to adhere to deadlines because you are well organised and take ownership of your work. You enjoy collaborating with others, and you relish the chance to coach and mentor colleagues. You always go the extra mile and are willing to perform tasks that occasionally require involvement outside regular office hours.

The role
We’re on the lookout for the next generation of HASSELL designers for either 6 or 12 month full-time paid student or graduate opportunities with our UK studio based in London.

At HASSELL, you’ll get the chance to contribute your ideas on a wide variety of projects. You will also build an understanding of everything it takes to deliver great design projects that ultimately create places people love.

Are you eligible?
Our programme is for both students currently enrolled at university, and recent graduates from all disciplines of design – architecture, interior architecture/design, landscape architecture and urban design. You will also need to have appropriate working rights to work in the UK or the ability to acquire the appropriate work visa.
