Hassell’s new Brisbane studio champions a new way of working
Our Brisbane studio in Queensland, Australia has found a new home inside the historic Peters Ice Cream Factory at West Village, West End.
The cross-town relocation fosters a new state of togetherness, connecting all our staff inside the expansive open space of a refurbished warehouse.
Our move is more than just physical — it supports a new way of doing business. We’ve embraced ‘agile’ working, which provides us with a greater variety of work settings and enables us to function more collaboratively with staff choosing their daily workstation depending on their needs. Ultimately it helps us create better design solutions for our clients.
Our new West Village studio supports a culture of inclusion committed to forging stronger connections with clients, collaborators and communities locally and globally. With food markets, restaurants and business services on the doorstep, the surroundings offer staff a rich urban setting.

The new interior fit-out — designed by Hassell for Hassell — encapsulates our latest workplace research with a focus on creating a magnetic, sustainable and community-minded environment. Workspaces are designed for collaboration, visibility and flexibility and can quickly adapt to accommodate after-dark client events and community gatherings.
Social spaces mirror the comfort and conveniences of home, encouraging moments of impromptu conversation and knowledge-sharing among staff. Abundant natural light, warehouse windows and lush sub-tropical planting layer an interior described by Principal Carolyn Solley as raw and honest.
“For a studio of architects, landscape architects and interior designers, the idea of injecting a historic warehouse with new life was enticing,” says Carolyn.
“There are rough edges and historical graffiti preserved and softened by natural finishes like cork and terracotta.”
