The Tugun Bypass is a major infrastructure project passing through some of Queensland's most significant flora and fauna habitats. It is an efficient, state-of-the-art motorway which includes seven kilometres of new road and a tunnel connecting Queensland and New South Wales.
HASSELL was an integral member of the PacificLink Alliance (Abigroup/SMEC/Main Roads) responsible for the design and construction of the Tugun Bypass project. The brief demanded a focused strategy on integrating urban design, landscape, environment and engineering. HASSELL completed the detailed design and coordinated construction for all urban and landscape elements, which scored an average of nine out of ten on KPI assessment criteria.
The Tugun Bypass is expected to save A$1.9 billion in reduced travel times and vehicle operating costs over 30 years, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.5 percent by 2017.
