HASSELL are the master planners, landscape architects and architects for this important site linking between Southern Cross Station and Etihad Stadium (formerly Telstra Dome). The master plan balances the complexities of large crowd movements through the site on game days, while maintaining an active, comfortable and intimate retail environment. The buildings are designed as a strong family of forms, each with its own unique architectural identity reinforced through a rich palette of materials and detail.
A 16-level office building (36,000 sqm) a hotel consisting of 250 rooms are envisaged as future stages of the master plan, both designed by HASSELL. The office tower is shaped to respond to the strong wind conditions in the Docklands, and clad in a distinctive diagrid patterned curtain wall of blue glass. A large roof terrace overlooks the stadium, city and waterfront, while the lower floors are sculpted to provide for major public stair connections between the stadium concourse and Bourke Street.
