Yarra Lane in Melbourne's inner city suburb of South Yarra is Melbourne's latest hot-spot, built by developer Michael Yates right in the middle of his latest office and residential development.

The laneway featured in the May 2011 issue of Venue magazine, and makes special note of three HASSELL-designed eateries – MoPho, Deba Sushi Bar and Outpost Dining Room.

Outpost Dining Room needed to be completed very quickly, as the ballooning population of the precinct was flocking to the newly-opened restaurants. Scott Walker, Interior Design Principal, spoke of the inspiration and fitout of Outpost Dining Room: "It's not overly decorated, but there's a sense of dressing to it. It's supposed to be pretty utilitarian and robust. And as it gets marked, scuffed and worn down a bit more, hopefully it will look even better."

The article notes that "HASSELL spent a lot of time trawling the outskirts of Victoria looking for authentic pieces, the recycled shopfront is from Daylesford with some of the glass replaced with pink panels, the electrical conduit has been worked into the design, and has a recycled carpentry floor.
