The public realm in Perth is the focus of an article in the August 2010 issue of Landscape Architecture Australia, which features the HASSELL-designed Wesley Quarter on its cover. 'Public Perth' by Richard Weller provides an overview of recent work by landscape architects to enliven the streets of inner-city Perth.
Wesley Quarter, on the corner of Hay and William Streets, provides an upgrade of the laneway and public realm around the Wesley Church. The introduction of simple forms and interfaces, such as sandstone seating, granite paving, shade trees and lighting make the laneway and surrounds clear and logical. These new works merge seamlessly into the existing urban fabric, 'encourag(ing) a range of uses, and offers a resting place adjacent to Hay Street's bustling retail precinct'.
