Adelaide Zoo Entrance Precinct and Giant Panda Forest

C3 (Korea)
No. 313, September 2010
pp. 56-67

Continuing on from extensive media coverage of the award-winning Adelaide Zoo Entrance Precinct and Giant Panda Forest, Korean architectural magazine C3 features these multidisciplinary HASSELL projects in its September 2010 issue.

The Adelaide Zoo Entrance Precinct breathes new life into a once-neglected part of the city and is the result of an ambitious integration of physical, cultural and organisational strategies. The article emphasises that the Precinct includes diverse prototypes for both living walls and green roofs made possible through close collaboration between the government, the Adelaide Zoo horticultural experts and the multidisciplinary HASSELL design team.

The article notes that the Adelaide Zoo Giant Panda Forest is one of the world's leading exhibits for the iconic and endangered giant panda species. It also explains that: 'A range of design features have been used to enrich the environment, particularly focusing on climate control. Chilled rocks, streams and waterfalls for bathing, mature shade trees for climbing, and glass reinforced concrete caves for shade and shelter create a comfortable and stimulating environment for the animals.'
